Terms & cancellation rights
These are the terms the work is done under, and they set out the legal right to change your mind that you have when you agree a job at your own home. Nothing here takes away rights the law gives you.

Who you are dealing with
This site and the business are run by REPLACE-WITH-MATTS-FULL-LEGAL-NAME, trading as Matt’s Painting, Decorating & Tiling Services. Matt is a sole trader, not a limited company.

Quotes and prices
Quotes are free, given in writing after looking at the actual work, and valid for 30 days. The price quoted is the price for the work described in the quote. It does not change unless you ask for something different, or something is found that could not reasonably have been seen when quoting — and in either case Matt will tell you, and agree the change with you, before doing the extra work.
Where Matt supplies materials, they are charged as set out in the quote. Where you supply them, he is not responsible for their quality, suitability or quantity.
Matt is not registered for VAT, so no VAT is added to anything he quotes. The figure on the quote is the figure you pay.
Your right to cancel — 14 days
Because jobs are almost always agreed at your home, or over the phone or by email, the work is what the law calls an off-premises or distance contract. Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 you have the right to cancel within 14 days of agreeing the work, without giving any reason.
The 14 days run from the day the contract is made — the day you accept the quote.
How to cancel
Tell Matt by any clear statement — ring, email or write to the address above. You can use the form at the bottom of this page, but you do not have to. To meet the deadline it is enough that you send your message before the 14 days are up.
If you asked for work to start straight away
Often a job needs starting sooner than 14 days. You can ask for that, and Matt will ask you to confirm the request in writing. You still keep the right to cancel — but if you cancel after work has begun, you must pay a fair amount for what has actually been done and for materials already bought for the job. If the work is finished within the 14 days at your express request, the right to cancel ends at that point.
Any money owed back to you is refunded within 14 days of Matt being told you are cancelling, by the same method you paid.
The standard of the work
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 the work will be carried out with reasonable care and skill, within a reasonable time, and any materials supplied will match their description and be of satisfactory quality. If something is not done properly, you are entitled to have it put right; if it cannot be put right within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience to you, you are entitled to an appropriate reduction in price.
Tell Matt as soon as you notice a problem and he will come and look at it.
Payment
Unless the quote says otherwise, payment is due within REPLACE-WITH-PAYMENT-TERMS days of the work being finished. On larger jobs Matt may ask for a staged payment or a deposit towards materials; if so it will be written into the quote before you agree to anything.
Access, and looking after your home
Matt needs reasonable access to the rooms being worked on, along with water and electricity. Floors and furniture are sheeted and covered before work starts. Very heavy or valuable items are better moved out beforehand, and he will say so when quoting.
If something goes wrong
Raise it with Matt first, by phone or email. Most things are sorted out on the spot. He will acknowledge a written complaint within five working days and give you an answer within 14.
Matt is not currently a member of an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) scheme. If a complaint cannot be settled between us, you can get free, independent advice from the Citizens Advice consumer helpline on 0808 223 1133, or take the matter to the county court. Nothing here affects your statutory rights.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.

You only need to use this form if you want to. Any clear statement that you are cancelling will do.
